However, I believe I’ve gained a lot more from this class than skill.
Blue Jay Journal TV is a second home for me. I am able to do something I love and want to pursue as a career. Plus, I get to meet wonderful people from my school and community. I believe making connections is an important aspect of journalism.
Journalism has greatly impacted my character. Connecting with people in my community has allowed me to perceive the world through a more empathetic lens. Every person has their own story, and it’s my job to tell those stories in the best manner possible. Each story and interview offers me a new perspective that I can learn from and use to develop my storytelling and character as a journalist.
Journalism is an art--an art that opens the public up to a new world. It goes beyond just writing stories. It primarily focuses on the actions of listening and responding. Journalism allows individuals to build credible relationships and meet new people to share stories that matter. The public will listen if I can convey a true and interesting story that illuminates an issue or situation. Once the public listens, they can respond and change society for the better. It’s a powerful art that has grown over the years to be my passion. Looking back, it's hard to believe that I once was intimidated by something that I have grown to love and value deeply.
