Kath·ryn [k-ae-th-r-ih-n]: according to kabalarians.com is a "female given name to a person who is self-reliant, creative in practical ways, and an independent diligent worker." As with any name database, personality, or zodiac website, this information is not guaranteed to be accurate. There are a million “Kathryns” in the world, as well as a million different ways to spell the Greek name, yet I believe this perfectly describes who I am.
My family plays a significant role in my life. I was raised with the core principles of giving back, respect, and integrity. Through those core values, I learned to approach all people and experiences with an open mind and heart. A biased perspective not only disregards the receiving party, but restricts an individual from appreciating a world outside of their own. Everyone is created equally, and I live by this statement, welcoming new individuals into my life with his or her stories and experiences. Additionally, the database states the name “Kathryn” represents an individual “who [works] best alone making [the] decisions as it is not always easy for [her] to respond to the advice and direction of others as [she feels] the need to be in control.” Ever since I was a young girl, I loved leading others, but it wasn’t always obvious. I would do things on my own which led others to believe I was shy and quiet. In reality, I just prefer to think for myself first instead of relying on others. I have a witty and outgoing personality once people get to know me, which I believe are important characteristics a journalist should have tucked away under a very thick skin. I tend to take an analytical perspective when it comes to expressing myself. I love to stay organized, explore deeper, and particularly, focus more on the process rather than the result. I believe there is a process every journalist must encounter to grow, and failure is a stronger teacher than success. Overall, I am confident in the work I produce as a journalist. Help from others is always appreciated, but I do not rely on others to perform large tasks or projects. However, since I approach situations with an analytical manner, I do tend to overthink even my best work. I am very conscientious in regard to what my peers and audience think, and even though failure is a great teacher, I fear it. I strive to showcase only my best work. Therefore, I often pick apart my work because I know I can do better, but it’s my self-determination that led me to become the best journalist I can be and pursue the career of my dreams: Journalism. |
Journalism is the beautiful, unbiased method of viewing the world and all of its events in the light of truth. I love capturing the raw emotions of people who share their stories with the world. Without Journalism and a free press, the general public would be left voiceless, and it’s my duty to provide a voice to the unheard.
I believe everyone on this Earth has a story to tell. Each individual is unique and no two people share the exact same story. Whether it’s taking pictures at an annual grade school Christmas concert or interviewing a mother who just lost her daughter to cancer, I strive to capture the true emotion behind the story and produce only the best journalistic work. Life's too short not to listen to and be impacted by someone else’s story. My thirst to learn and grow will never be fully quenched as I keep striving to discover and share the stories that are all around me. There is an endless realm of possibility ahead of me, and I am going to embrace every part of it. I will continue to love, inspire, learn, and grow into the person that I was born to be. I am determined to change the world through the power of Journalism as a journalist named Kathryn. |
